Paper boxes can protect the product, organize multiple items, create shelf presence, and make unboxing feel more complete. The right structure depends on how the product is sold, shipped, opened, and displayed.
Folding Cartons
Folding cartons are common for lightweight retail products. They ship flat, fold into shape, and provide enough printable area for branding and product information.
They work well for cosmetics, supplements, small food items, accessories, and many consumer goods. They are not usually the best choice for heavy products unless the structure and board are reinforced.
Sleeve Boxes and Trays
A sleeve with an inner tray creates a more premium opening experience. The tray holds the product while the sleeve provides the main branded surface.
This structure is often used for gift sets, cosmetics, electronics accessories, and products that need a cleaner presentation than a simple tuck carton.
Display Boxes
Display boxes are designed for retail visibility. They may hold multiple units, sit on a counter, or fit into a shelf system. The structure needs to consider product count, front lip height, back panel area, and how easily shoppers can remove each unit.
Mailer Boxes
Mailer boxes are stronger than standard folding cartons and are often made with corrugated board. They are useful for ecommerce, sample kits, subscription packs, and products shipped directly to customers.
Inserts and Dividers
Inserts keep items in place. They can be made from paperboard, corrugated board, molded pulp, foam, or plastic, depending on product weight and protection needs.
Structure Comes Before Artwork
Artwork should be built on the final dieline. If the structure changes after design approval, panel sizes, fold positions, barcode placement, and front-facing graphics may all need revision.
Choose the box structure first, confirm the dieline, then prepare artwork around the real folding and display logic.
